The Fundaments of Gaza

The campaign “The Fundaments of Gaza” tells the story of the people of Gaza. The story of the victims. The story of people like you and me. Daughters, sons, mothers, fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers. They have dreams, go to school, work, and thereby sustain their society. They are the foundation of Gaza.

They do very “normal” things under unusual circumstances: for decades the Palestinians in Gaza have been trying to build a life of dignity under Israeli occupation. However, Israel has been systematically uprooting Palestinian society. According to Human Rights Watch (HRW)’s most recent report “A Threshold Crossed: Israeli Authorities and the Crimes of Apartheid and Persecution“, Israel’s occupation violates the human rights of Palestinians on a daily basis. Israel is guilty of war crimes committed by Apartheid.

With the campaign “The Fundaments of Gaza” we create awareness about the daily reality of Palestinians in Gaza. In addition, we help those affected in a sustainable way, so that they can take care of themselves and their community again.

Meet Momen Faiz. He grew up as an orphan after his father was murdered by the Israeli occupier during the first Intifada. He turned into a loving man, a committed father, and a passionate journalist in Gaza. While Momen was performing his job as a journalist, he was hit during a previous Israeli raid. He was seriously injured and lost both his legs. Despite this, Momen remained determined to pursue his dreams and work as a journalist. He started a media production company in Gaza to continue sharing with the world Gaza’s everyday life under Israeli occupation.

On the day of Eid al Fitr, Momen’s building was hit by an Israeli airstrike. The building where his media production company was located was razed to the ground. Years of saving and hard work, investments in equipment such as laptops, cameras and monitors have been deliberately destroyed. Israel’s attack has nothing to do with self-defense, but it is a targeted attack on journalism and freedom of the press in Gaza. Journalists like Momen risk their lives and refuse to accept that Israel is silencing the free press in this way. We are happy to help him set up a new media production company that he and his fellow journalists in Gaza can use.
